Fairy Tales (Series)

This series is inspired from a set of very thought provoking images of 'fairy land'. I am glad I received these images:)

The story of 'Frog Prince' signifies the power of love. Our judgement makes us tag people (in the case of this story, tagged as a frog). However, when we shed the curtain of judgement and start to really 'see' via our feelings, when we give people a chance and try to accept them, we see the same old people in a lovely new light!

Ah well, this title is not apt for the poem, technically.

FROG PRINCE

She looked hard for an imperfection - even a single thread that she could hold,
But she succumbed to this insanely beautiful insanity, for he was too perfect to be cold.

Ink Blue

Love could be beautiful, love could be sad and blue. This poem is about a love as sad as it is pure: it is ink blue. Yet, it is beautiful and mature like the autumn. It opens a portal to a parallel world that is limitless like the cosmos it self...

Ink blue

Meeting in their parallel world
A spectacular galactic, cosmic dance
Amidst starlit night and sun-kissed grass
Autumnal, just as their vital love
In wilderness unlit, no fake shadows cast

Near a pond moonlit, with creaks and croaks
Behind a boulder, next to a mountain-rose
Faint fragrance of the flower spread
Right there is where destiny had led

Sweet portal to a parallel world
And there they reside forever safe
The king, the queen, the ink blue night.

Red Umbrella

Worry not
For slippery grounds
For greys upon us
Or sounds of hounds
Come underneath
this umbrella red
Come hold my hand
Let us go to bed

Worry not
Rains only quench
Let go of fear
Put on your trench
Come with me
In this umbrella red
Come hold my hand
Let us go to bed

WARM BOWER COLD

WARM BOWER COLD

To try find it at night is futile,
The sun that then had but drowned,
Into the darkness unseen within an ocean's womb
Only to be born again on a new day with a birth new?
Anew, anew, anew?

In garden of glories that gloriously awaited
The daisies danced on songs of faith
By a little pond, pondering it's return
A broken henge lets daisies dance
Awaiting the sun so it's shadow be cast
Still waiting, still waiting, still waiting.

A heart of butter turned into stone
Stone henge stayed, stood petrified
Sombre, sullen, saddened at loss
At loss to comprehend, stood alone
as people admired the bower of roses
Stood alone, stood alone, stood alone.

Warm bower of misery cold
Chilled the heart but henge has none no more!
Demonized in its intransigence, stays to chill
As callous winds blow so cold
And rest in "peace" in warm bower cold
So cold, so cold, so cold.

MAD

So love is mad and so are the people in it and for them everything else is madness...

MAD
Mad about each other and mad
And so mad at the world, so mad.
Pulled apart and fell to stand tall
But what did hurt wasn't the fall.

BEREAVED

To all those beautiful people that we have lost and to all those strong souls left behind, alone....

BEREAVED

And where are you going away,
dear sun?
Stop! Wait for me.
I am coming too.
Take me where ever it is that you like
As I am only walking towards you
If you go darkness alone would prevail.
Not me.
I would be lost, paralysed.
A last glimmer of a tired lamp
Burning in the agony of loss.
Bereaved.
A last glimmer of a feeble hope.
A last ditch stand.
A final puff of wind within.
A last fragment of soul.
Bereaved.

DOLL

Do you 'over'do?
Often we impose that what we love, on those we love the most. An innocent mistake, a manifestation of nothing but love and enthusiasm. Joy multiplies on sharing, true, but do you think, at times it could be crippling to impose our likes on someone?
Afterall, our people are not our toys and instead of 'customising' those we love, we should rather enjoy the wonder that each one of us is...

"See how much, for you I care!
If I have a penny, for you I spare.
My favourite cookies for you I cook
Carry you for picnic by my favourite brook.
I read you stories I loved always
I care for you in a million ways
I love the grass so green I paint
your eyes. O! heart of this saint.

My way, now, the world you shall love
Wear these wings and be my dove."

DOE

In the mesmerising tune of a wish come true, an opportunity, a chance,  like an innocent little doe we chase our dreams into the deepest of forests without a sliver of doubt. With a sparkle in our eyes as brilliant as the one we see in the path we choose and with enthusiasm glorious like the sun, we follow the calling. Ah! It is a new beginning.

---------------------------------------

  DOE

As follows the sweetest melody
hops, she goes deep
little doe with eyes sparkling
like the daisies underneath her feet.

like the sun bright overhead
overjoyed she hops around
like the song of the brook's shimmer
such the sheen in her crown

For now she is a princess
and just what she wished she'd be
For knows no bounds the bliss beget
it begets such boundless glee

Sweet so, the song of the song bird
she follows with all her heart.
Ah! So sweet the air fresh.
Ah! So sweet the dawn.

The Act Of Omission

Disappointment. What would you suggest is the most important prerequisite for disappointment?
Imagine a world where people did what they are supposed to do without wishing for anything in return. Now imagine extending this difficult, to the extent of impossible scenario, to personal lives. Like it or not, every interaction is basically a transaction, and it is expectation which is the breeding ground for disappointment. 'The Act  Of Omission' is the sin of 'not doing' that what is expected. It is one reason why so many of us are met with disappointment.

This poem explores such acts of omission. While the first stanza highlights that unless WE feel the need for something, there is no way that it can be omitted, hinting that what we 'feel' is often our own mind's manifestation. Thus to avoid being disappointed, we must stop judging our interaction/transaction with baseless optimism justified in little children alone. May be the other person is not actually as close to us as we may feel. May be what we expected out of them did not even cross their mind!
The second stanza describes three causes leading to omission. Why would someone NOT DO what you thought they would? May be because you expected it from the wrong person as already described, or may be, that feeling has died away in them. Or, because it was a deliberate attempt to 'not act' in a particular manner as happens sometimes when people complicate things by putting in too much thought.
Finally I ask you via my poem, what do you think is 'tyranny'? In case of a misleading 'virtual' truth as is an image, would you blame the mirror that reflects, the image itself or the person who perceives it? Is false promise, on the other hand, a bigger sin?

THE ACT OF OMISSION

Red embers that glow without warmth,
Blue Jays in the lap of skies blue,
green apples in a big green tree,
they exist if you think they do.

To unveil that what may not be!
Like gold in a copper chest!
Or that what died a white dwarf?
Or that what was put to rest?

What is tyranny, ask, we all must.
In a tranquil pond, a face?
Or the ripples pretty, pretty promising,
that abate without a trace?

THE LAMP AND THE SEAGULL

If you really love someone, will you set them free. Or should you?
Is it justified to remain silent about how you feel for some people? Are the stakes too high in confiding?

This poem explores one such relationship with the help of metaphors.
As the seagull watches her beloved lamp sail away happily, unaware of her throbbing heart, her mouth goes dry. The entire time they spent together flashes infront of her. She is all set to see-off her buddy, but 'telling' would cause her to lose her beloved friend for good. Or so she thinks.
Drowned in her fear, she stands still and silent, suddenly so 'wing-less' and so 'frail'.

In her ambivalence, the time has already passed, the boat has already sailed, and all she is left with, are memories of the past, remorse in the present, and imagination for the future...
'my lamp is happy, my lamp is free' , she tells herself...

THE LAST EXAM

In the last few minutes of life, he sees his sweetheart worried, sobbing, on the other side of the door of the operation theatre. As the lights are switched on, a tide of thoughts overcome his nearly lifeless body. As he takes his last exam he learns the greatest lesson of life...At first he tries and accepts the unavoidable but slowly he realises that he has unfinished tasks. Those tiny little details he overlooked branding them unimportant suddenly caught all his attention.  He tries to negotiate with death, alas, in vain. Following are the last of all the memories and thoughts:

THE LAST EXAM

Many a suns bright glare back at me.
They dont smile or nod. My chances are weak.
So understanding, complacent, they know what I want to say.
Lying like a log, I try but cannot speak!

People around me, they move in a frenzy so blurry.
This might as well be my last exam, what is the hurry!
I have known to party, now I'd know this.
From the first cry of life to death's wicked hiss.

"You have come too stealthily! I accuse you! Unfair!"
"But you had all your life, to care, to repair!"
"Yes, but I thought there is more I could then do"
"You cannot schedule eveything, can you?"

I stay silent, even in my mind now.
What has gone has gone, I "couldn't" reap what I had sown.
I see blurry faces, peeping hard from behind the door.
"You've been my life, its not you but me who's alone."

This is my last exam and for once I dont care
About what I fetch, about fair, unfair
For once, its not what I get that matters
But what I lost in my frenzy, my despair.

If only I could trade all I have "earned" for some time.
If I could write our daughter, a new little rhyme
If I could kiss you "you are my world" I'd fondly say
If not a 'goodbye', I'd like to hear a last 'hey!'

If only each time I had spoken, I had looked into your eyes!
If we had had dinner not over TV, but in candle light!
My brain is going numb, but I can suddenly count,
The many years of life I missed for some fake delight.

If only they'd let you in, I could atleast hear
If you blame me for abandonment, my dear?
Do you know I love you? Do you know my fear?
Will I be in your heart, or atleast somewhere near?

This is my last exam, right here, right now.
Lying like a log, I know I cannot prepare.
Trust me, I am upset, I am angry, I am sad
That the result would be for only you to bear.
