Those of you who know a bit about physics would know a 'vector'.
Effort, I'd say, is a vector quantity.
Magnitude as well as direction are important to determine the outcome of an effort.
Absence of effort cannot light up a lamp.
A feeble effort of holding onto a small piece of wood wouldn't save a person from drowning.
But the saddest of all scenarios is the one where a lot of effort is being wasted because of 'incorrect direction', so to say...
Wasted
In darkness, dwelled in a cave unlit.
In a sea of sorrow held on to a twig.
In days, awaited glorious nights.
In shiny armour, fought no fights.
Paradox of this earth, a silly soul,
Not at rest, without peace or goal,
Wastewater stagnant on soggy sand
A withered flower in wasteland
Wandering winds at speed of thought
Wasteful endeavour, a wasted shot
Wasted, breathless, uncomfortable
Wasted breath, in all, unable.
